KAITO'S WAIRAKA LEGEND RETELL!!

Hello fellow viewers, For the past few weeks we have been focusing on Oral Language and retelling Maori legends. Here is a piece of writing I did about how Wairaka saved her tribe. I hope you like it!!

(My Writing will start here:) Once upon a time, hundreds and hundreds of years ago, There was a chief called Toroa. Toroa has a daughter called Wairaka. They were both in the tribe called the Ngati Awa tribe. They have been sailing for months and months trying to find a good place to settle. Until finally they found a beautiful beach. But a beautiful beach doesn’t necessarily mean that it's safe so just in case the men went off-board the waka to check if it's safe. Suddenly, a huge storm came and started rocking the waka side to side. Then the wind pushed them closer and closer to the jagged rocks of the shoreline. Wairaka knew something had to be done because the men weren’t going to be there in time to save them. So Wairaka made the dangerous decision. Back in the days, in the Maori culture it was considered as sacred (Tapu) or bad to touch the paddle as a child or a woman. Wairaka knew that it was Tapu but she picked up the paddle and said: “Kia Whakatane au i ahau” and started paddling to the shoreline and with an almighty push Wairaka saved the whole tribe from this terrible disaster. After that the men thought the beach was a great place to live so they stayed there for months and months. The beach was named after the speech that Wairaka said: “Kia Whakatane au i ahau” so the beach was named “Whakatane'' And if you go to Whakatane today you can see Wairaka looking over the very beach where she saved her tribe. <THE END>

ALSO here is a picture about the storm in the story:

Question: Do you know any other legends that Wairaka was involved in?

WAIRAKA'S TRAITS!!

Hello, Today I have finished this piece if writing about Wairak's traits(What she is like). So here it is!!:

Wairaka’s traits:

Wise, brave, smart: Because of her decision of trying to save her tribe by taking the paddle.

Caring, powerful, strong: Courageously she takes the paddle to save her hopeless tribe from the dangers of the sea.

Optimistic: A few minutes later on the waka… a big storm came terrorising the tribe then Wairaka came up with the decision on the positive side to take her friends and family back to shore.

Question: Have I made any mistakes?
